You may have ever felt that you have become in a downward spiral because of doing the same routines over and over again for a long time. You do the same thing over and over again, but you realize that you are getting nowhere. Things that you used to like now don’t seem so interesting and instead of moving towards your goals, you just feel like you are sinking deeper and deeper into the same place.

Feeling like you can’t get out of a rut can be frustrating, but there are things you can do to find out why you’re experiencing this and to get yourself motivated and excited again. Learn how to get out of the routine and that in this way you can feel good again with yourself and with your life.

Are you stuck in the routine?

When you feel stuck, you may not even notice it at first because they are feelings that increase over time, as you continue with your routines day after day. You do not feel that you are doing for your future, if not that it seems that “you are killing time”. Sometimes you may feel that your emotions are unbearable, but it is essential to find the cause of your discomfort. There are some signs that can help you identify if you’ve really gotten stuck in your routines. Some of these signs are:

    • Every day seems the same to you
    • You feel like just “days go by”
    • You feel unmotivated by what you do
    • You feel dissatisfied with the life you lead
    • You want to change but you are afraid of the discomfort that changes have
  • You know that changing would give you happiness but you don’t want to leave your comfort zone

These feelings or signs can mean more serious things than just being stuck in a rut. They can be symptoms of a persistent depressive disorder. This mild but chronic mood is characterized by symptoms that are less severe than depression but tend to last longer. There are people who experience these symptoms for a long time without knowing that what they are experiencing is a form of depression. Bad moods, decreased energy, loss of interest, and loss of pleasure are common symptoms of this condition.  If you suspect that you may experience this disorder, you will need to see your doctor to explain how you feel.

Why do you have that routine

While you may recognize that you are stuck in a rut, you may not know how you could get out of it. Not all routines are the same and you need to find out what is causing these feelings of discontent before making too drastic changes in your life. Perhaps you feel routine with your romantic partner, at work or in any other area of ​​your daily life. Your health, your family situation, your friends , your interests, even your home can be sources of unhappiness .

Once you understand a little better why you feel what you feel, don’t criticize or hold back yourself. Don’t minimize the problem to try to make your feelings more trivial. Even if things seem like they are fine the way they are, if you are not happy with your life, it will be time to look for other ways to change things and recover that spark that you feel you are missing. The first step to improving your state of mind is to recognize what you are feeling and then start looking for steps you can take to change things.

How to get out of the routine

What are the things you can do to break the routine cycle that makes you unhappy and start moving forward again? Here are some different ways that will help you get out of the routine and feel better:

    • Beware. Take an evaluation to see if you are taking care of yourself correctly, do you eat and sleep well? Do you spend enough time with people you love? Do you do things that you like to do?
    • Change your routines. If you always do the same you will not have different results. You may feel this way because you get bored. Find ways to change things up and add different experiences each day. You can talk to new people, look for fun, learn new things, show your spontaneity, enjoy the outdoors, etc.
    • Find your purpose. To feel motivated you must have a purpose. This means doing little things like having a movie plan on Friday night. Or maybe you want to have bigger plans for your career or family .
  • Delay gratification. When you expect greater rewards in the future, you can better build your self-control and have more willpower to achieve the things you really want to have. You can make plans and anticipate the things you want to achieve. Don’t overlook the little daily rewards because this will always do you good.

Enjoy the nature!

Enjoying nature can have a positive impact on the brain . If, for example, you take a step in nature, negative thinking will be reduced and your risk of depression will be reduced. In addition, walking in nature is associated with a decrease in feelings of sadness, stress, and increases people’s mental well-being.

Nature also helps improve creativity so if you feel stuck in your routines or that everything is going wrong … go for a walk in nature because only its presence will help you to be better. Allow the thoughts to pass through your mind but without affecting you too much. Relax and think about the beautiful things you see in nature. You will exercise and you will be able to return to your life with more inner strength than ever.

Increase your motivation

Maybe if you feel stuck in a rut but suddenly everything starts to fall into place in your mind, these feelings disappear. You can take a more active approach and find that focusing on motivation is a good idea to get better. You can actively motivate yourself by giving small cases to the things you want to achieve, think about how you can change things to be better and then do it.

Also, don’t forget the importance of rewards. Positive reinforcement can be helpful when you want to find motivation. You can promise yourself a reward for doing a task and then enjoy it. These rewards can help you be more motivated in what you are doing.
