When you smile, your brain automatically understands that you are okay, and if you are not, it helps you to be okay. There are those who believe that smiling is an involuntary response to things that bring joy or laughter, and although this is true, what most people overlook is that smiling can be a voluntary, conscious and very powerful response.

A smile can make others see you more attractive, it also elevates your mood and that of the people around you. In addition, and if that were not enough, it also helps you have good health so you will live longer and happier. If all of this doesn’t convince you enough, then don’t miss out on these reasons why you should make a conscious effort to smile every day.

1- You will be an attractive person

People who smile naturally attract other people. There is a real physical attraction factor linked to the act of smiling. Not surprisingly, more severe or negative facial expressions, such as frowning or grimacing, work in the opposite way, pushing people away, because a bad feeling makes you uncomfortable. Instead, use the attractive power of your smile to attract the right people into your life.

2- Smiling frees you from stress

Stress can make you feel bad in all aspects of your life and it can show up on your face. Smiling can help you avoid looking tired, worn out, or overwhelmed with life. Smiling can reduce stress even if you don’t feel like smiling or even when you don’t know you’re smiling. When you’re stressed, take enough time to smile. 

3- You will have a better state of mind

The next time you feel bad, try putting on a smile. There is a good chance that your mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick your body into helping you lift your mood because the physical act of smiling actually activates neural messages in your brain.  A simple smile can trigger the release of neuropeptides from neuronal communication, as well as neurotransmitters that boost mood, such as dopamine and serotonin. Think of smiling as a natural antidepressant … and you will get better!

4- The smile is contagious

Smiling not only has the power to lift your mood, but it can also change the moods of others and make things happier. The part of your brain that is responsible for controlling the facial expression of the smile is an unconscious automatic response area. Which means that the smile can be completely unconscious, particularly when it comes to the habit of imitating someone else’s smile. Yes, it is scientifically proven that smiles are “contagious” .

5- You will get sick less

Smiling can also increase your overall health. The act of smiling actually helps the human immune system to function more effectively. It is believed that when you smile, your immune function improves because you are more relaxed (thanks to the release of certain neurotransmitters).  If you smile more often, the flu won’t be able to do anything to you!

6- You will feel much better

There are studies that show that smiling automatically releases endorphins in your body. These endocrines are natural pain relievers and serotonin will also help you feel better. These three neurotransmitters make us feel good from head to toe.  These natural chemicals not only elevate your mood, but also relax your body and reduce physical pain. smiling is a good natural drug. But best of all, you will feel more positive and life will start to smile on you too!
