Maybe when you go to work you feel like everyone is turning their back on you, but maybe it has more to do with how you relate to others than with how they treat you.  An open mind is about listening to both positive and negative reviews from co-workers and customers. Open-minded professionals view the company differently when you enter a new opinion in their calculations.

Having an open personality can be very beneficial for you, since in addition to opening new doors, it will help you feel that you are capable of anything.

An open mind

Let’s get real about adopting an open- minded personality . An open mind is the willingness to listen, learn, and consider someone else’s opinion. An open personality is an important trait that employers value. The workforce wants open-minded employees because they are easy to train, teach, and coach.

Employers trust that you will adapt to their productivity methods and discover new methods of problem solving . Open-minded people adjust to individual and team tasks.  However, smarties are difficult for employers to handle and are not welcome in the workforce.

Open-minded traits

All open-minded professionals move around similar qualities.  The main ones are adaptability, flexibility, curiosity, acceptance and awareness. Adaptability equips professionals to handle diverse work environments and co- workers . Flexibility requires multiple tasks on projects and tasks.

Curiosity is being constantly willing to discover and learn new things through points of view, research, and questions.  Acceptance is learning to accept a person’s opinions that are similar or different from your own. Consciousness for professionals is knowing that there are different perspectives and not limiting your mind only to their points of view.

How to develop an open mind

An open mind is a natural trait for some employers.  If no traits apply, learning to be open-minded is the alternative approach. Practice daily and being open-minded will become automatic. The patience and humility, with no particular order, are the main ingredients. Focus on hearing an employee’s full opinion

    • First, ask for clarity if you don’t understand something. Express your opinion after fully understanding their position. You will be surprised how much information comes from misreading a person’s perspective.
    • Second, rejecting employee ideas often. Immerse yourself in every opinion, positive and negative, and tell them how much their opinion matters to you and how important it is to the company.
    • Third, schedule a meeting to encourage employees to speak their minds. Let them vote on upcoming opportunities and current issues. Then celebrate employee accomplishments with the entire staff. Then, based on an employee’s skill and talent, assign schedules and work assignments to challenge and motivate employees to grow the business.
  • Lastly, it provides a platform for customer feedback (internet survey, comment card, etc.) and incorporates those comments to correct and / or create projects and tasks within the company.

Don’t limit yourself to these suggestions. See this as a stepping stone to additional ideas to show an open attitude towards employees and customers with diverse personalities and cultures. Keep a good perspective on work circumstances but remember that you must set certain limits so that others do not take advantage of you. You must have your ideals very clear even if you have an open mind or can be flexible at certain times.
