Perhaps you have ever wondered whether or not you have the good character to be a leader, what exactly defines it? Having a strong character, for example, has nothing to do with having a bad temper. A person with a strong character will be an assertive, emotional person who knows how to set limits and goals in his life. A person with good character does not mean that he is “trampled” by others, far from it! But your personality will allow you to live a much fuller life than if you did not have this way of seeing and feeling life.

If you do not know whether or not you have a good character to be a leader, then you will know and understand if your personality makes you feel good in life, or on the contrary, your bad character makes you feel miserable every day . In order to be successful in life, it is necessary that you work in your life so that all these traits define you from now on.

Integrity

Integrity is a good keyword that is similar to character, but it gives you a different way of looking at ideas in life. The root of wholeness means “whole” or “undivided”, and that’s a great way to help us understand what wholeness is: an undivided life. 

For example, you don’t act one way in one situation and another in a different situation. There is integrity and consistency in your life. Living this way will build trust in the people around you. Another use of the word integrity that provides us with information is when the word is used with respect to a physical structure. A wall or building that is strong and has no cracks is said to have integrity. The same could be said of great leaders.

Honesty

It is regularly said that honesty is the best policy, but it must be added that honesty is the only policy for great leaders. Think about it. Why do people protect the truth? Usually for a few basic reasons: they are afraid of ramifications or are trying to hide something. Either way, dishonesty results in the fact that you destroy the trust of those around you. Even if you tell them the truth but they know you’ve lied to others, it will destroy the trust you had with them. Since they think that if you have lied to others you will be able to lie to them too.

Dishonesty never brings anything good with it, in fact if people find out they are lying they will think you are always a liar . The good reputation you have will be based on you, what you say and what you do. When you are honest you will live transparently and the people around you will love you more.

Loyalty

Good-natured people are loyal people. Anyone who knows human nature knows that people fail, but loyal and good-natured people will try not to fail if it is within their means. It’s only a matter of time, no matter how talented someone is. A person of good character stays with his friends even in times of inactivity or difficulty.

Anyone can be friends with others when times are good. People of good character stay with their friends when they need them most. This translates into becoming a good leader: people want to follow a leader who will make them improve, but who will also allow them to try and fail. When we are loyal to the people around us, they will be loyal to us and will do their best to be successful. There are few things that strengthen the leader-follower bond more than when a leader shows loyalty to a follower in need.

Self-sacrifice

What is it about personal sacrifice that generates admiration and loyalty to others? Followers don’t mind doing the hard work. They don’t even care if a leader makes more money or benefits from their work. However, what matters to followers is when the leader is using them for personal gain .

Good-natured people don’t use other people, period. So when a leader shows sacrifice for personal gain, he tells followers that he is willing to join them, and followers almost universally reward him. A person of good character shows that he can give up personal gain for the good of the whole. A true leader creates new leaders … not just followers.

Responsibility

People of good character don’t care about responsibility . In fact, they appreciate it. This is the act of allowing others to have a voice in your life, to speak directly to you about your life and behavior. The truth is that we have blind spots and we need other people to be close to us so that we can move on the path of success. 

The need for responsibility does not show a lack of character . Rather, it demonstrates the presence of character. Followers get tired of leaders who will have nothing to do with responsibility. They don’t care about leaders who make mistakes, but they care about leaders who don’t take responsibility for their mistakes by being responsible. When we hold ourselves accountable, our supporters know that we are serious about keeping our own home in order and will therefore do a good job of leading the rest of the organization.

Self-control

The ability to make decisions, good decisions , about what we will do and what we will not do with our actions is the core of what we become with respect to our character. There will be many options to participate in things that are not moral. Everyone has temptations, but a person of good character knows how to exercise self-control, literal control over their choices.

When people don’t exercise self-control, they sabotage their ability to lead. People lose respect for them and will follow them less, if they do. Self-control is the ability to choose to do the things we should and to refrain from doing the things we shouldn’t do. When we exhibit self-control, we again build trust in our followers. If you do, they will respect you and want to follow you.
